How to spot possible odometer fraud in a Chinese used car
Use dated readings and physical evidence together; a single current reading is not enough.
Build a timeline
Put every available dated mileage reading in order. A later reading lower than an earlier one is a strong inconsistency to investigate. Confirm the dates and units first, because data-entry errors can also occur.
Compare with the car
Look at pedal, seat, steering-wheel and tyre wear; ask for service invoices and inspection records. Wear is only a clue: parts can be replaced and usage varies between owners.
Handle gaps carefully
A smooth history is reassuring only for the dates that are actually recorded. A long gap, or no history at all, cannot verify mileage during that period. Ask the seller for supporting documents or commission an inspection.
