Verify Used Car Mileage History in China
Compare available dated mileage observations with the odometer shown by the seller.
Use the VIN or enquiry form here after the page loads.
DEMO-NOT-A-REAL-VIN
Mileage history can reveal an odometer reading that falls below an earlier recorded reading or otherwise needs explanation. Gaps in history require further checks.
How to use it
- Enter the vehicle’s 17-character VIN.
- Read the dated mileage observations and any reported inconsistency.
- Ask for dashboard photos, service records and an on-site check before deciding.
How to read the result
- Compare the date and odometer value of each observation in order.
- Investigate a later reading below an earlier one, or a jump that does not fit the timeline.
- Check the most recent available reading against the seller’s current dashboard photo.
Data and method
Available observations may originate from maintenance, repair or diagnostic encounters, depending on data coverage. Diagnostic tools can record a vehicle reading during a service event.
These are dated observations rather than a continuous log of every kilometre driven. The report should be read alongside the source and time shown in the result.
What the result cannot prove
No inconsistency found is not a guarantee that the odometer was never altered.
A missing period or a vehicle with no available observations cannot establish its actual current mileage.
When to use this check
- An inexpensive used car shows unusually low kilometres for its age.
- You received a seller-provided report but want an independent VIN lookup.
Frequently asked questions
Can an odometer be rolled back?
It is possible on some vehicles. A dated earlier reading higher than a later reading is a reason to investigate.
Why are there gaps between records?
Mileage is only observed when a covered service or diagnostic event is available. Driving between events does not generate a record here.
Is a normal-looking timeline a guarantee?
No. Compare documents and have the vehicle checked in person.
